Jaipur: A local court on Friday directed the police to reinvestigate charges of showing disrespect to the National Flag against IPL Chairman Lalit Modi and his VIP guests who allegedly used the tricolour as a cover for tables on which wines were served during a match of the premiere league's first season.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jagmohan Aggarwal ordered a fresh probe into the allegations against the IPL boss and his VIP guests taking note of the fact that the police filed a final report saying that no case is made out just on the basis of a written denial of the incident by Modi.
The matter relates to the India-Pakistan match of IPL season one held at SMS stadium on November 18, 2007 when the VIP guests of Lalit Modi were allegedly served wine in the VIP lounge of the stadium on tables covered with the tricolour.
It was argued by the counsel for the complainant that instead of investigating the case thoroughly the police personnel wrote a letter to Lalit Modi asking him if the incident ever took place and simply on the basis of written denial by the latter police filed a final report on November 26, 2008 stating that no case is made out.
On going through the final report of the police the court held that the investigation was not carried out in a proper and fair manner and directed the police to assign the matter for reinvestigation to a senior police official.
