KARACHI: Pakistan captain Younis Khan said on Tuesday that he supports Javed Miandad's proposal of having bouncy tracks during the preparatory camp for the ICC Champions Trophy.
Younis said that his players will be ready for the tough assignment in South Africa after practicing on bouncy pitches at home.
"It is a great idea as it will help us prepare for difficult conditions in South Africa," Younis said.
Miandad, the former Pakistan captain who is currently working as Pakistan Cricket Board's Director-general, had floated the idea of having bouncy wickets similar to the ones that Pakistan are expected to play on at the Champions Trophy during the preparatory camp for the elite eight-nation tournament.
The PCB has asked Miandad to work as Pakistan's batting consultant ahead of the Champions Trophy. Soon after taking over the new role, Miandad had said that he would want the national team batters to practice on bouncy pitches.
The idea didn't receive all out support from Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam, who said that it would be better to train on 'sporting wicket' rather than on tracks that are just bouncy.
However, Younis's vote seems to be in favour of Miandad's idea.
The Pakistan captain believes that Miandad can really help his struggling batters to get ready for the Champions Trophy that will get underway from September 22.
"I think that Miandad's presence in the camp will really be beneficial for all of us," he said.
Pakistani players warmed up for the Champions Trophy by attending a conditioning camp in Lahore and will now get down to some serious cricketing practice during the second and last phase of the exercise that will get underway in Karachi from September 12.
Speaking on another issue, Younis urged the world cricket bosses not to make any changes to the one-day game. He said that the idea of having shorter One-day Internationals will do more harm than good to the limited over matches.
"I don't think that it is a good idea to have shorter one-dayers because they will lose their charm if that decision is taken by the authorities."
Younis said that over the years ODIs have gone through enough innovations and doesn't need any more changes.
"We have already changed ODIs a lot by introducing powerplays and other innovations which are enough to make this format attractive," he concluded.
