Abu Dhabi: Pakistan captain Younis Khan won the toss and elected to bat in the first one-day international against New Zealand here on Tuesday.
Pakistan dropped Shoaib Malik to adjust a regular opener in Khalid Latif, while all-rounder Abdul Razzaq also returned to the side after a two-year gap.
New Zealand decided to leave out paceman Kyle Mills, who is nursing a shoulder injury.
The two sides last clashed in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy where New Zealand prevailed before losing to Australia in the final.
The second and third matches will be played here on Friday and Monday.
