Ricky Ponting says while he is relieved his side was able to beat India in its one-day international clash overnight, Australia must start to capitalise on its power plays.
Australia was sent in to bat in the fourth limited overs match of the seven-game series and made 250, with Ponting and Cameron White both hitting half centuries.
India fell short by 24 runs, with Doug Bollinger and Shane Watson taking six wickets between them to level the series at 2-2 with three games to play.
Ponting says Australia has improvements to make if it wants to take the series.
"It looked like at one stage we were probably going to get close to 300 but they did bowl well in the power play and we didn't capitalise on our last power play.
"We just lost wickets leading up to it again, which has been a problem for us through the series so far.
"The series is back to level again, it's been up and down right the way through.
"Neither team really has been able to grab all the momentum but we're looking forward to the rest of the series now."
He said the team's performance in defending its total was pleasing.
"You can smile when you win I guess," he said.
"It was a good game of cricket in the end, [I] probably felt that we left a few runs out there with the batting.
"But the boys certainly bowled and fielded exceptionally well."
He called it Australia's best fielding effort in more than a year.
"Tonight when you think about it, it's been a really, really good win for us," he said.
"Coming up short with the bat, bowling and fielding really well and having Peter Siddle bowling only five overs in the game, we've fought things out really well."
