Boycott for making Pakistani wickets more bowlers friendly

LONDON, Nov 4 (APP)-Former Yorkshire and England opening batsman Geoff Boycott has stated that unless Pakistani wickets are made more bowler friendly, then the bulk of the country’s batsmen will continue to struggle overseas.“Pakistani pitches are far too much in favour of the batsman. There has to be in future some sort of balance and equality between bat and ball, otherwise Pakistan will continue to produce batsmen who can’t score runs away from the sub continent. The wickets are too flat and too true,” he told UK-based website PakPassion.net .

“Those in authority in Pakistan need to address the situation, because at the moment as far as I can see, you can just plant your front foot down the track and score runs with a stick of rhubarb. As a batsman you don’t have to think too much about your batting, you are not tested technically and you don’t have to concentrate too hard to score freely on those wickets.

“The issue here is that it’s difficult to adapt to other types of wickets when you have been brought up on such flat tracks”, added Boycott who is part of the Ten Sports commentary team for the one day series between Pakistan and New Zealand.

He further explained : “The plan is simple, you see off a few overs from the new ball and you are set. Then you can just counter the bowling by planting your front foot down the track and playing almost everything off the front foot with ease.”

Meanwhile, speaking to the same website, National Bank and Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Talha has declared that he is targeting 50 wickets in this season’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy competition.

“I like to set myself targets and this season my aim is to secure at least 50 wickets in Pakistan’s premier first class competition,”, said the 21-year-old speedster from Faisalabad.

Talha who has represented Pakistan once in Test match during the home series against Sri Lanka said that he was happy with his form so far this season for National Bank.

“I’ve managed to take 17 wickets in the 4 matches that I have played so far and its been great bowling in tandem with Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer. Asif is really helpful in providing advice on how to bowl to different batsman and he really encourages me. Its great having someone as experienced as Asif alongside me in the team.”

The youngster also expressed satisfaction with slight change that he had made in his run-up saying that he has felt in good shape and is comfortable with his run-up and action.

“ I hope I can continue to have a successful season with the National Bank and make the squad for the tour of Australia. I hope to catch the eye of the selectors and it would be great to tour Australia with the Pakistan team later this year.”
