Mumbai: Board President's XI captain Rohit Sharma says he is keen to display his leadership qualities when he leads the side against Sri Lanka in a three-day practice match beginning on Wednesday.
"It's a good opportunity for me to showcase my skills as a captain. It wouldn't be that tough... looking forward to it," he told reporters here.
On the prospect of facing mysterious Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis, Sharma said: "He is a good bowler no doubt but we are not thinking whether Mendis is playing or Murali (Muttiah Muralitharan). We are focussing on our strength, not theirs."
Asked if motivation would be a problem since the selectors have already picked the Indian team for the Test series against the Lankans, Rohit said: "We cannot do anything about things that are not in our control. We have been selected to play here and we'll play."
Rohit pointed out he had scored a century against the visiting Australian side last year in a practice game but unfortunately did not get selected.
